Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is the No. 1 school district in the state for academic and financial performance, according to an annual report conducted by the Education Resource Group (ERG). CFISD ranked atop the list in the ERG’s Education Productivity Index (EPI), which awards a cumulative score for both Academic Performance Index (API) and Financial Performance Index (FPI).
CFISD ranked 25th in the API, based on TAKS test performance, four-year graduation rates and college admission tests. The district also ranked third in the FPI, an operating efficiency rating based on all funded expenditures for instruction, leadership, student support services and non-student support services.
The district’s EPI rating jumped from ninth in 2011 to first in 2012. CFISD also made dramatic increases in the API (59th to 25th) and FPI (seventh to third) ratings.
In 2012, CFISD had 3,590 more students at the “Met Standard” level (or Level II) than projected, and 2,675 more students at the “Commended” level (or Level III) than projected. Meanwhile, the district spent $160.6 million less than projected.
“Cypress-Fairbanks ISD has carried a longstanding reputation for academic success and fiscal responsibility,” said Dr. Mark Henry, superintendent of schools. “The ERG has supported these perceptions with strong data reflective of a top-performing district. The credit for this rating goes to our outstanding employees, fantastic Board and, most importantly, our great students, parents and community.”
The goal of the Education Resource Group is to help clients develop and sustain effective and efficient organizations. The ERG analytics team provides data allowing policymakers to respond to the critical challenge from Gov. Rick Perry to “… identify those organizations whose practices contribute to high academic achievement and cost-effective operations.”
