Even in the hubbub of the new school year, the Cy-Fair community is taking the time to focus on their health.
Over 2,800 Cy-Fair residents and families came out to CFISD’s 1st Annual Health Expo at the Berry Center to participate in the many health and wellness opportunities offered. The Expo was organized to help support the Health Organization of Physical Educators, or H.O.P.E, as they strive to spread health and safety knowledge to local students, parents and employees.
Throughout the festivities, visitors enjoyed interactive booths set up by local businesses, including healthy food recipes and samples, fun exercise games and safety tips from real police officers. Entertainment also came in the form of back-to-back performances by CFISD students as they sang, danced and showed off their boundless talents for their audience.
Another talent these students showed was their growing appreciation of health education. Community coordinator Marti Owens sat in at the H-E-B booth and noticed the same thing. “We were amazed at some of the questions the students had,” she said. “They were very informed and interested in nutrition.”
For its inaugural year, the Expo was a major success! Raising over $10,000 for H.O.P.E. has given the community and CFISD organizers hope to continue this event for future years.
“The success of the Health Expo was a result of the partnership of all the CFISD departments and the surrounding community,” said Kristina Perez, director of community programs. “We have received nothing but compliments, but we certainly intend on making it a bigger and better annual event.”
