Growing up, my mom was awesome. She made breakfast for me every morning before school. She packed my lunch full of healthy things which, at the time, I didn’t appreciate. I always tried to trade my celery sticks for a friend’s pack of Gushers or Kit Kat bars, but my classmates were smart. They never caved, and neither did my mom despite my pleas for more dessert and less veggies. In my infinite childhood wisdom, I would say things like, “If I’m the one eating it, why do you get to decide what I have for lunch?” She always responded the same way.
“Because motherhood is a sacred thing.”
Being a great mom is hard work, but it’s the most rewarding job on the planet. Sometimes navigating motherhood is confusing and exhausting, which is why the women at Houston Mom Expo started a two-day tradeshow to bring moms together and share in their experiences. They know being mom is a special bond shared between mothers and it deserves to be nurtured and celebrated.
The Houston Mom Expo starts Friday, Aprill 11th at the Berry Center and runs through Saturday. There will be exhibitors with awesome items for mothers of every age, as well as educational content, demonstrations, play zones, music and more. For more information on all the activities, check out the online schedule. If you’re interested in attending, tickets are $5 for ages twelve and up and can be purchased from the Houston Mom Expo home page.
Looking back, I know my mom was right. She worked so hard and sacrificed so much for her kids. And why?
Because motherhood is a sacred thing.
So don't forget to celebrate yourself -- and one another -- every chance you can.
