6,200 children die every day from malnutrition and hunger. An Illinois-based non-profit organization is calling on Houston to help lower that number.
Feed My Starving Children helped feed 190 million people worldwide last year. In August, they’re hosting an event in Cypress that they hope will result in 1 million children being fed.
Victor Wayhan is a professor at the University of Houston and an ardent supporter of Feed My Starving Children. Wayhan says the upcoming event is a city-wide affair. “We will have Cy-Fair ISD representatives, Cy-Fair Houston Chamber, Shell and HP. We will have more than 25 churches and many others,” Wayhan said.
The 2-day event will take place in the Berry Center from 8 pm on August 1st until 6 pm on August 2nd. The goal of the event is to enlist 5,000 volunteers and pack 1.25 million meals. These meals, called “Manna Packs”, are comprised of protein and dried rice – specifically designed to fight starvation.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate. Each volunteer will serve for a two-hour shift.
