The Northwest Assistance Ministry has outdone themselves again this year! On Thanksgiving the fed over three thousand people. They have also collected toys for nearly three thousand children. Each year, the Northwest Assistance Ministry receives requests from hundreds of families who are going through a difficult time and cannot afford gifts or a special holiday meal. Area residents can help by donating food, toys, volunteer service or financial gifts.
“This is one of my favorite times of the year,” says Carole Little, President & CEO of Northwest Assistance Ministry. “It’s wonderful to see how the community comes together to make the holidays special for Neighbors in Need. I love seeing cars and trucks pull up to the building with gifts that you know will bring a smile to the face of a deserving little boy or girl.”
Donations of nonperishable food and new, unwrapped toys for ages 12 and under may be brought to Northwest Assistance Ministries main office at 15555 Kuykendahl Road in Houston from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday or from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays. To be eligible for assistance, families who receive the meals and toys must live in Northwest Assistance Ministries service area, meet income requirements, and pre-register.
“This is a great opportunity for businesses, congregations, school groups, sports leagues, youth groups or neighborhoods to host a collection drive on behalf of Northwest Assistance Ministry,” said Little. “Inviting members to bring donations to your location allows more people to get involved, which in turn means Northwest Assistance Ministry can help even more people.”
Volunteers are always needed to help sort and distribute the food and toys. To volunteer, please call the holiday coordinator at (281) 885-4555 ext. 3914 or email holiday@namonline.org.
