Towne Lake, Caldwell Companies’ northwest Houston community connected by water, partnered with Onurmark Productions to host its sixth annual Towne Lake Triathlon on Monday, Sept. 7. Over 1,500 racers competed in the event, in both Sprint distance and Olympic distance courses.
Towne Lake provided the course for both distance options, giving athletes the chance to utilize the community’s 300-acre private recreational lake and extensive road and trail systems. The sprint-distance course included a 400-meter swim, 12-mile bike course, and 3.1-mile run, while the Olympic-distance course included 1,500-meter swim, 23.5-mile bike course, and 6.2-mile run.
“Towne Lake looks forward to hosting this fantastic race featuring local, talented athletes,” said Kent Puckett, vice president of operations, developments of Caldwell Cos. “The amount of community support for these racers continues to grow and we can’t wait to see everyone come out on Labor Day each year.”
As part of the Onurmark Giving Challenge, athletes can select a charitable organization to receive the funds raised by their teams. This year, over $28,000 was raised! Since program inception in 2012, athletes have raised more than $400,000 for dozens of charities.
This year’s winners include Matt Hanson, who placed a new course record of 1:49:10.3 and Lisa Roberts, who won overall female with a new course record of 2:07:34.7.
All racers enjoyed the post-race party that included food, drinks and music. The top finishers for each distance received a cash prize, and all racers received medals and swag bags with running gear.
Towne Lake and Onurmark also partnered for the fourth annual Towne Lake Kids Triathlon on Sunday, September 6th. Over 300 kids competed in this year’s event.
