There’s been a lot of positive developments in the Cy-Fair school district - recently, a Science Olympiad team from our very own Cypress Ranch High School won the Gulf Coast Regional at Lone Star College. “I am very happy for my team because they set winning this competition as a goal and worked hard to achieve it,” says Cypress Ranch Science Olympiad sponsor Justin Powers, in an interview with Your Houston News. “I am also proud of the seniors and the leadership they showed.”
This Friday and Saturday, the regional Science Olympiad winners will compete at the Texas A&M University in order to see who will qualify for the state-level competition at the Texas Science Olympiad. We have a lot of confidence in the Cypress Ranch High School team, which has been ranked by Newsweek as one of the top high schools in the US last year, and one of the best in Texas.
Cy-Fair’s school district boasts of a strong academic program with advanced placement classes to place accelerated learners in challenging courses with great teachers. The quality of teachers helps to create that quality, and this year one of Cy-Fair High School’s AP biology teacher received a distinguished grant from the National Society of High School Scholars to pursue a master’s in her field to further her knowledge. The recipient, Anne Gill, received two Teacher of Distinction recognitions from the society twice in the past four years. “I love teaching AP biology,” Gill says on Your Houston News. “It is my passion, and want to get a master’s in biology so that my knowledge of the content will increase. I can only help my students more by having my master’s in biology.”
More improvements to educational quality are also coming to Cy-Fair in the form of a large, $1.2 billion fund to develop new infrastructure and upgrades. The plans include new schools, putting bus routes back into operations, and better technology to help with instruction and communication. The district predicts it will have an additional 2,000 more students by 2022, and plans are geared to prepare for them.
With all the activity and great potential coming to Cy-Fair’s schools, this will be a spot worth keeping tabs on for parents!
