Here’s an interesting home buying factoid: Millennials actually love the suburbs! In a CultureMap survey on what Millennial home buyers are looking for, here were some of their top picks.
1. Suburbs over urban
When they are buying their first home, more than half of Millennials said they want a suburban life. They’re actually four times more likely to pick a bigger house rather than live in a densely populated area. But that doesn’t eliminate the desire for urban amenities - the suburban lifestyle with all the urban benefits of being walkable to parks, grocery stores, schools, and work would be the magic combination.
2. More outdoor space
There are plenty of traditional reasons to buy a house, such as a financial investment. But one of the most important reasons for a home, for many Millennials, is to have plenty of outdoor space.
3. Flexible living spaces
71% ranked being able to customize a new home as somewhat or very important. Some of the top customizations desired in a new home include a children’s play space and a separate living suite, as well as office areas and basements.
4. Second income source
About 35% of survey respondents wanted to rent out their home space in order to receive additional income.
Millennials are looking for a suburban home with lots of customizable space, and close to plenty of urban amenities while keeping their suburban lifestyle. What about being next to a lake as a bonus? Not only does Towne Lake have a great deal of neighborhoods for young families, it offers tons of amenities and easy access to Houston’s downtown scene.
