Race spotlights local athletes, utilizes Houston’s largest private recreational lake
Towne Lake, Caldwell Companies’ northwest Houston community connected by water, is partnering with Onurmark Productions to host its fourth annual Houston Towne Lake Triathlon on Monday, Sept. 2. More than 1,500 racers are expected to compete in the event, where athletes can choose to race either the sprint- or Olympic-distance courses.
Towne Lake will provide the course for both distance options, giving athletes the chance to utilize the community’s 300-acre recreational lake and extensive road and trail systems. The sprint-distance course will include a 400-meter swim, 12-mile bike course, and 3.1-mile run, while the Olympic-distance course will include 1,500-meter swim, 23.5-mile bike course, and 6.2-mile run.
“Towne Lake looks forward to hosting another fantastic race featuring local, talented athletes,” said Kent Puckett, vice president of operations, developments of Caldwell Cos. “The amount of community support for these racers continues to grow each year, and we can’t wait to see everyone come out on Labor Day.”
As part of the Onurmark Giving Challenge, athletes can select a charitable organization to receive the funds raised by their teams. This year, Onurmark will match the funds raised, making up to a $3,000 donation to Cherish our Children International and the National Spasmodic Torticollis Association. Since program inception in 2012, athletes have raised more than $110,000 for dozens of charities.
Athletes can register for the Houston Towne Lake Triathlon at Onurmark.net. All racers are invited to the post-race party to enjoy food, drinks and music. The top finishers for each distance will receive a cash prize, and all racers will receive medals and swag bags with running gear.
Towne Lake and Onurmark will also partner for the second annual Towne Lake Kids Triathlon on Saturday, Aug. 31. Registration is now open for athletes ages 6-15 at Onurmark.net. For more information about Towne Lake, visit TowneLakeTexas.com or call 281-256-2772.
